"The Greening of Southie"

A documentary on the Macallen Building, the notably green-spirited, brown-colored, wedge-shaped building on the edge of Southie and the South End in Boston, will be shown at the Coolidge Corner Theatre in Brookline Monday at 7 p.m..

The building is certified LEED gold and was a top 10 choice of the American Institute of Architects' Committee on the Environment.

After the screening, which follows the New York premiere July 5, Green Roundtable executive director Barbra Batshalom will lead a discussion with the filmmakers, Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis. The GRT and the Boston Building Materials Co-op are collaborating to promote the film.

Other Mass. showings are planned for Amherst (Aug. 2), Great Barrington (Aug. 3), and Northampton (Aug. 4). I'll be outa town for the Coolidge event, but I'm very interested, both in the subject and in the film; I will try to get out to Noha.

Here's the trailer...

Speaking at Commonwealth Club

I will be speaking on the topic of food addiction at the Commonwealth Club of California, the oldest public affairs forum in the country, on Feb. 28. I'll be joining a fabulous panel of researchers and clinicians: Nicole Avena of Princeton and the University of Florida, Eric Stice of the Oregon Research Institute, Vera Tarman of Renascent Center of Toronto, abd Elissa Epel and Andrea Garber, both of the University of California at San Francisco. I am very excited to be part of the roster, not to mention to be appearing at such a great institution. Ticket information here; if you come, please stay afterward to say hello.
